Keeping a server boring
Most outages I have seen were not caused by traffic spikes. They were caused by someone changing three things at once, on a Friday, without a rollback plan.
A boring server has one purpose, one exposed port, and a config that fits on a screen. Everything else lives behind it.

Notes on TLS termination
Terminate TLS as close to the edge as possible, keep certificate renewal automated, and make sure the fallback site is real. Empty 404 pages are a fingerprint.
